Identification and Brief Advice 1 day training

course

Why is this training different to other IBA training?

Identification and Brief Advice training, is delivered traditionally across the care sector and other medical professions, however, it is now seen as desirable training in the private sector where managers are responsible for employees Health and Safety at Work (Act 1974).

There are27% of men and 14% of women drink over the recommended number of weekly units for sensible drinking. Also 1 in 25 adults are dependent on alcohol, and many more are drinking to hazardous levels.  It costs the economy between £1.2 - £1.7 billion per year, in terms of the cost of alcohol related lost working days this is shown to be between £1.7 - £2.1 billion and approximately 31.2 million days are lost to alcohol related illness! How many of these are on Mondays? Is Monday, your lowest output day? How many of your employees have driven to work?

I.B.A. training looks at why some people drink to harmful levels, it may be ambivalence, or ignorance and some people might need some reasons for changing, health?, wealth? or happiness? During the day, we will look at what a IBA is? How we can facilitate an IBA, use Audit Tools, introduce The Cycle of Change, identify local referral pathways and sources of help.

How is this course delivered?

In order for participants to fully appreciate the difficulties of changing drinking behaviour we put the spot light firmly on the course participant!  We all  have something that we would like to change about ourselves and for a multitude of reasons haven’t yet got around to it, whether it be learn a new language, get fitter, stop smoking, cut down on drinking, or, do the Great North Run, whatever it is, we can all come up with a reason for not doing it! In many cases, that’s the same for people who have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.

At the end of the day, participants will have had the opportunity to use some of the tools in a safe and supportive environment.  We want individuals to leave the training comfortable and confident in their ability to deliver IBA should the need arise.  The Albert Centre is a leading provider of alcohol and drug services across Teesside, course participants will always be allowed to contact the Charity for further advice and support should they require it once the course is finished whether it be for themselves or others.
