Diversity  - Can I Think Beyond Tolerance?

Here at the Albert Centre we don’t just want to tick the box to say “we do equality and diversity!” We want to go a little further and ask “do I tolerate or do I go beyond?”

Why is this training different to other Diversity training?

Equality and Diversity training, historically, is spending a day looking at legislation.  The participants attend with a heavy heart but at least it ticks a box!  The Albert Centres Training Centre offers a 1 or 2 day course aimed at challenging our thoughts and behaviours.  Over the course of the day(s) our aim is to raise awareness amongst staff regarding diversity issues and the responsibility of the organisation and individual staff members to apply the principles of diversity in all dealings with: colleagues, clients/customers, professionals from other organisations and the general public through all forms of communication.

How is this course delivered?

Over the day(s), we examine the term ‘diversity’, explore the main domains in a practical way through individual and group exercises, investigate current organisational practices and identify areas for improvement and importantly how are these going to be monitored!  We make sure that the investment in the training is not just for a ‘ticky box’ exercise.  It is also recommended that diversity is seen as an integral part of everything we do, not a stand alone subject on an agenda and to this end we will also spend some time looking at developing a forum for continual development of best practice - what do you currently do well and what else could you do?

The course for the individual is delivered in an environment that allows for safe discussions where misconceptions can be challenged and where through fun exercises they can explore their thoughts and feelings.  The organisation will benefit from having enlightened employees that haven’t spent time away from the ‘day job’ to be able to only regurgitate dates of equality legislation!

Off the shelf or bespoke to your organisation?

Prior to any course, the trainer will discuss the course content with the commissioning manager, look at your current practices and in particular identify how you want the forum to be developed.

Organisations that are looking to attain Investors in People or other ‘people versus systems’ awards, will need to demonstrate their commitment to equality and diversity.  ‘Ticky box training’ won’t do!
